Amongst the dark greens and blues, we have also done quite a few projects in white, grey and creamy neutral colour schemes. A neutral coloured run of cabinetry can allow you to be more daring with colour and texture in your accessories or perhaps a contrasting colour on your island or peninsula, or it can create a calm & minimal aesthetic in the space.

It can be daunting choosing colours, especially when you are choosing a white or grey, as there are so many hues, tones and undertones to each white, grey or cream! We have compiled a list of some of our neutral coloured projects to hopefully help you along the way.

Cornforth White

A cool toned, off-white, almost grey white. This looks beautiful paired with blues, greens and other cool toned colours. The satin nickel plated cup pulls and bun knobs tie in beautifully with this colour and the warmer tone in the nickel creates balance.

Sloan Square - Mylands

Closer to a true white, but still leaning in the “off whites” section. This white is a perfect neutral; meaning cool and warm tones alike will compliment it beautifully. In this bespoke kitchen & office space, the client went for a contrasting black island and silver range (cool tones) next to warm, brass handles, tap and orange chairs for the floating desk.

Grouse - Mylands

Grouse is a warmer, slightly pink hued neutral. Warm toned colours will look beautiful next to it like the beautiful burnished brass handles, tap and oak details in this dreamy bespoke utility room.

Pure White No.1 - Mylands

Pure White No.1 is exactly what it says on the tin. You cannot get whiter than this! Pure White No.1 will go with absolutely anything as it is fundamentally, the absence of colour. It is the perfect contrast here to the black Lacanche, granite splashback and black marble in the checkerboard floor.

Temple Bar - Mylands

Whites closer to creams are quite flexible. The yellow undertones pair nicely with exposed wood, terracotta or burgundy and golden brass accessories, while the neutrality still maintains it as an excellent partner to nickel & stainless steel, greens, blues & purples.

Kitchen Trends: The January Blues

The holidays are over, but fear not, there is still much to be excited about and even more beautiful projects on our website and social media available for your viewing and kitchen reno planning pleasures! Last year, we saw an abundance of blues in kitchen design and we don’t think this classy colour is going to hang up it’s hat in 2020.

Entire Kitchen Blue

A very popular way of playing with colour and drama is by choosing one blue colour for all of your cabinetry. Bond Street and Maritime from Mylands, orHague Blue from Farrow & Ball are all very popular colours and always look nice in every different style kitchen.

Contrasting Island

A contrasting blue kitchen island is an absolute classic. This style is effortlessly chic and a great way to inject colour into your space. If you’re unsure of going bold with your cabinetry, a dark blue kitchen island will set a fun tone to the space whilst a light contrasting colour on the rest of the units will make your kitchen feel balanced.

Opposites Attract

Another great way to add a darker tone to kitchen is by dividing the colours between your top and bottom units. Keeping the bolder colour on the bottom, adds height to the space making the kitchen feel larger. This can be a very useful tip when designing galley or smaller kitchens.

Tiles

If blue cabinetry isn’t your thing don’t worry, there are other ways of implementing colour into your design. One very fun way to go is by adding a decorative tile on your floors or splashbacks. This will make your space feel a bit more modern and definitely add a lot of character to your kitchen. These Scallop tiles in ‘Navy’ were very popular in 2019.

We don’t think blues will be leaving us in 2020! However we will start to see lighter and more powdery/pastel toned blues in the new year as opposed to the moodier dark blues of 2019.

From deep industrial colours to brass handles, 2019 has been the year of statement kitchens partnered with brave fittings that suited the personality of the owner. As 2019 will soon be coming to a close, we look ahead to the kitchen trends of 2020 and give advice on what clients are looking for.

Reflecting on the Biggest Trends Of 2019 

2019 has seen the trend of dark coloured kitchens, many clients then pair with lighter tiles that bring light to the space. It was the year of being brave and adding personality to kitchens by making progressive choices that suited the client’s style. In addition, brass fittings were huge and will continue to be so for the next 10 years, while boiling water taps (and the benefit of having tea on demand) were the luxury choice of many.

New for 2019 was rippled glass, adding texture to the kitchen and cabinets, whilst hiding the potential mess inside the cupboards. We are big fans of rippled glass, it also adds an art deco style to any kitchen.

Looking Ahead To The Biggest Trends Of 2020 

In contrast to 2019, while dark colours are still popular for 2020, we are also starting to see clients go for colours for their cabinetry that we’ve never done before - lighter pastels, deep neutrals and pinks/yellows accents. This is partnered with funky backsplash tiles or whole wall tile features adding texture and personality to the space. Things that are easy to change further down the line.  

2020 is also seeing a lot more tech coming into the kitchen for wi-fi enabled gadgets that is easily controlled from your phone, whilst the ripple effect glass is huge for next year too.

The biggest trend for 2020 is clients wanting to find space for a walk-in pantry in existing kitchens or when doing an extension to hide any mess. It’s about adding luxury to a space whilst keeping it practical.

Trends Across the UK 

Interestingly, the trends in kitchens are not as different as you may think across the UK. Country kitchens are often bigger spaces, avoiding upper cabinetry due to the fact they have space for utility rooms and pantries, whereas London kitchens go for the upper cabinets to add storage wherever possible. However, both love to go funky, adding personality and bring their style to life.

We love the fact that our clients aren’t scared of colour, texture and new trends. It's exciting to see personality being stamped all over the space, creating unique rooms that are fun to be in. 2020 is a year of fun, stylish kitchens that better reflect the personality of the owners. Kitchen trends: The Rise of Pantries & Larders

We have seen an enormous increase in demand for kitchen larders and pantry spaces.

We’re not surprised, as they are beautiful to look at, add height to a space and above all are extremely practical.

Whether it’s single door or you have space for a double (or even two double doors!), there’s ways of designing a pantry larder to suit everyone’s taste and needs.

You can have shelving and drawers, or just shelves, as well as matching the first shelf to your worktop. We have a signature larder design here at Herringbone that we are obvioulsy quite fond off, but being bespoke, means you can have any internal design.

Adding spice racks on the back of your pantry’s doors will free up a lot of space inside and makes all your spices, vinegars and oils accessible and more visible. These can be painted to match your cabinetry or left to match the wood inside your pantry. The addition of a rail here in the same metal finish as your handles will create continuity in your kitchen. It’s a small detail, but it works!

If you’re having a separate walk-in pantry, open shelving can be a way of opening up the space and keeping everything accessible, especially if you have a more narrow or a smaller sized room. Again, continuing the worktop through into the pantry will create a sense of flow through the space.
