The Virginia Water Project

Oak Stained Marble Kitchen

A Warm Kitchen Transformation

When our clients bought this beautiful home in Virginia Water, they knew right away that they wanted to fully renovate the house. The kitchen was very dated and in need of replacing, so the decision was made early on for a complete rip-out and new kitchen. This gave us the opportunity to design the kitchen was redesigned from scratch. Since the property didn’t need extending, it was more about improving the layout and making better use of the existing space

The Design & Layout

With kitchens like this, it’s not about how much you can fit in, but how balanced and comfortable the space feels once everything is installed.

One important layout change was specifying a new doorway leading to the back-of-house area. To make this work naturally within the room, we designed an angled doorway, which helps the flow through the space and avoids interrupting the kitchen layout or cabinetry runs. The devil was in the details for this project, and that is where this project really shines.

The client was very keen to include timber in the design, so we introduced this on the island and again in the darker timber breakfast area. The mix of painted cabinetry, natural timber and stone gives the kitchen warmth and depth without feeling too formal.

Our client chose a beautiful stone worktop, and we added a double bullnose marble edge detail on the island. This allowed us to layer materials , oak below, then the two layers of stone above, which adds a lovely sense of craftsmanship and detail.

One of the most important elements for the client was the island. She didn’t want it to feel like a standard kitchen island, she wanted it to feel more like a piece of furniture, almost like a table that had always been in the house.

David drew the island with turned legs to achieve this, which completely changes how it feels in the room. It softens the kitchen and makes the space feel more like a living area rather than a purely functional kitchen.

A Very Detailed Project

This project was all about the details. The proportions, the timber tones, the stone edge, the turned legs… everything was very carefully considered and very specific to the client. It’s a lovely example of how a kitchen can feel warm, characterful and furniture-led, while still being practical for everyday family life.
