The Tunbridge Wells Kitchen & Bar

The Design

This lovely family decided to undertake a kitchen extension to make their space more of a family living area. They previously had a very traditional glass conservatory in the back of the house that was either too hot or too cold, and of course leaked.

They worked together with Rob to design a space that could work for the whole family, importantly they wanted to fit in an island, as well as their living space. The client had a great eye for style and together they created a warm family space, where the children can be at the table doing their homework, someone can be cooking and another on the sofa relaxing.

‘We decided to go with Herringbone because we loved the look of their kitchens. While being traditional handmade, wooden kitchens, they have a unique joyful design aesthetic that we were after. We were so impressed with the quality of the finish, especially paint finish and the little details like dovetailing that showcase how well made they are. We also love that they are a close team and we could sense this throughout the project. Overall, it was a lovely experience and I would recommend to family and friends.”

In terms of the design, the trickiest bit was fitting in the island and making sure there was sufficient space around it so there wouldn’t be any pinch points. Rob suggested having an island instead of a peninsula and the client found a smaller L shaped sofa to make it all work. Rob also helped in the drawing and the positioning of the skylights so they filled the space nicely.

When we asked the client their favourite part of their new kitchen, they told us

‘We love the wine cabinet, it makes serving drinks a lovely experience and super practical.  We also love the breakfast area, everything is on hand, yet it can all be neatly shut away.. The kids and I love the charging drawer, which is used every day.’

The Details: Colours, Handles & Bespoke Details

The kitchen cabinetry is our traditional Rye door, with decorative cockbeading. The cabinetry is painted in bespoke colours made for this client. The handles are brass cup, knob and pulls from Armac Martin. The client has a beautiful quartz worktop with a strong vein that runs throughout. They had lovely complements to the stonemasons in how well they matched the veining throughout the upstand.

“The joining and quality of craftsmanship is lovely, everything including the paint job is done well. Importantly, the fitters were incredible and the level of finish they achieved was excellent.”

Herringbone House

“It's just a lovely place to be, it functions well and looks beautiful.”

Family Life

How a space functions in the normal everyday world is so important to us at Herringbone, so we are very happy to hear that it works perfectly for their family.

“Our kitchen is now the main family hub of the house and we do spend more time together now that there is one space. The kitchen has become an amazing space to relax in.”

The whole project has turned out so beautifully, and we were lucky to have had the opportunity to create this project with the family. We wish the family a lifetime of happiness in their new beautiful home.
