The Jessica Road Project

The family first bought this house close to Wandsworth Common over twenty years ago, drawn by the excellent local primary school. Life had other plans. Just over a year in, the family were posted abroad, and the house was let out for the next eighteen years while they lived overseas.

By the time they returned, the house had grown tired after so many years of tenants. With their architects Rider Stirland, they took on a full house renovation, which included new plumbing, electrics, a loft conversion, a kitchen extension, new bathrooms and windows. At the heart of this extension, was a new kitchen. The brief was clear from the start: timeless and elegant, warm rather than clinical, bespoke without ever feeling overdesigned.

"We were warmly greeted by the team and had some great meetings with both David and Julia. They understood us and the brief brilliantly, and took us through different ideas and options. We wanted the kitchen to feel timeless and elegant yet warm and not too 'kitchen-y', and we loved the bespoke options and the high quality and sustainable ethos that Herringbone House stood for. We also liked the fact that Herringbone is a small business, with the kitchens made locally in the workshop.”

The clients worked closely with Julia to create the perfect space for them. At the heart of the design sits a dark oak island with deep drawers, paired with slim shaker cupboards in our Westgate range, cleverly concealing a pantry cupboard and a large fridge freezer behind their quiet, uniform fronts.

"The attention to detail is fantastic, including the beautiful internal finishing and the brass hardware. The brass tap has become a family favourite feature, along with the beautiful honed Arabescato marble tops."

Knowing the kitchen would become the true heart of the house, the family wanted it to open outwards — flowing easily into the courtyard garden where they spend most of the warmer months.

"The kitchen is our favourite part of the house. It is a bright, calm, happy space which blends perfectly with the dining area, coffee area and garden."

The same honed marble carries through into the pantry and the bar, quietly tying the kitchen to the back lounge beyond it.

"We also used the same marble top in the pantry cupboard and in our bar, connecting the area with our back lounge. The space feels Scandi-modern yet blends well with the Victorian features."

"The whole process was very smooth, and the fitting was done quickly and efficiently. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend Herringbone House."

“It's just a lovely place to be, it functions well and looks beautiful.”

With the renovation now complete, and the family all settled back in Wandsworth together, they are now able to enjoy the space, 20 years in the making. We wish the family a lifetime of happiness in their new home!
