The Maidstone Home Project

“After visiting the showroom the quality was clear, and I knew we would end up with a beautiful kitchen as well as a practical one. From the moment I first spoke to David he understood my needs and wants well and he is an excellent designer. He also offered suggestions regarding our building work to make better use of the space. The fitters were fabulous. James was meticulous and went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect for us.”   

The Design

The clients were doing a small side extension to incorporate a downstairs washroom and utility. The Designer David, reconfigured their original architect plan so that the washroom and utility worked better with the kitchen and added additional cabinetry in the hallway for extra storage. The client wanted a space that worked both as a casual dining area and kitchen, the media unit made this a space the whole family could relax in, and meant they could have their formal dining area in another location in the house.

“This project was very unique, to have causal dining, living and kitchen within the same area but working really well together doesn’t always happen but we were able to make it work with the cabinetry design. The design was a fun challenge and I think we mastered the brief here. The clients were great to work with and I am really happy to see it all come together so nicely for them.” David, the Designer

The traditional cock beading Rye Style cabinetry works perfectly in this space. The main kitchen run is painted in a colour similar to Herringbone Paints’ Cathedral Stone and the large kitchen island and bespoke media unit and dresser are painted in a colour similar to Friday Night Green from the same range. The low-silica worktop flows throughout the space and helps to make the kitchen stay light and airy in any light.

“In an ideal world I'd have had a kitchen, island with seating, dining table area and lounge area in my kitchen,  I didn't have the space for this so I dreamt up the island with bar stools on one side, and bench seating incorporated too that can be used with or without the table. David made my garbled explanations into reality. The design allows for drinking wine at the island whilst we cook, the table for us to eat together, or the kids to do homework, and then we can pull the table out and use the bench seating like a sofa for gaming etc.”

 “I also really wanted the bi-fold cupboards to hide away the air fryer, toaster, coffee machine and microwave etc. I ended up speaking to Herringbone after struggling to find anything to practically meet my needs, it was a very "computer says no" vibe at a lot of other places.  After visiting the showroom the quality was clear, and I knew we would end up with a beautiful kitchen as well as a practical one.”

“My favourite part is probably that we have flexible seating options.  We also have fab storage, and I love that we can hide away all the small appliances.  I also love the Quooker tap and now am spoilt and couldn't imagine waiting for a kettle to boil.  The colour palette and hardware decisions were the result of a combination of what me and my husband could agree (after some discussion!) on. I knew I didn't want it all dark or all light, and David helped us sort of zone it with the cabinetry.”

The Bespoke Media Unit & Dresser

The bespoke dresser sits just off the kitchen against the main wall looking out into the garden. The wooden design element continues throughout the unit to bring warmth to the space and match the table and flooring. The unit not only holds the TV but it also houses the fridge freezer, wine bottle storage and a cupboard for the family’s games, crafts and much more.

The Utility Room

Cleverly stored away just off the kitchen is a usable space for the family to not only do laundry but to store away the hoover, ironing board and other white goods. The shelves allow for storage up high and further hanging space for drying washing.

In the hallway the under stairs space is also utilised to the max with a lovely walnut floor to ceiling unit that fits the family’s large shoe collection. This bespoke design is designed to fit this space perfectly bringing warmth and texture to the walk-through area.
