 The Putney Project

“I had followed Herringbone before we bought this house and not only loved all the kitchens on their website but really appreciated their family business value which subsequently came through in all our dealings with any members of the team. Dealing with Herringbone through the building works was also a real pleasure. Mark and Bill who installed the kitchen shared my symmetry OCD, were tidy, communicative and delivered an excellent final result which we couldnt be happier with. We feel very lucky to have discovered Herringbone and to have one of their kitchens.“

The Design

The kitchen we designed for a lovely family in Putney, London is our Westminster Style, which marries the traditional Shaker kitchen with a modern touch.

The kitchen is fitted along each wall of this space with floor to ceiling cabinetry housing the fridge freezer, a large kitchen pantry larder and additional storage. It wraps around to the main run of the kitchen with lower cabinets and makes a feature of the Range Cooker. The shelf above the kitchen sink brings in character to the space.

The Details: Colours, Hardware, Worktops Etc

We love the wooden elements through the kitchen space. The exposed wine racks above the fridge freezer combined with the wooden shelf bring in warmth and texture breaking up the Pantry Blue colour from the Herringbone Paints Range. In a similar way the stainless steal material of the fridge freezer and the Range Cooker bring in a classic yet modern character element to the kitchen.

“We had a long debate about whether to include an island in the design which would have meant putting the kitchen table where the sofa and chairs are now and losing the social space. We are so pleased that we chose not to because not only does it free up space in the middle of the kitchen but we enjoy hosting people whilst they sit at the end of the room. We have plenty of cooking prep space around the oven and serve from under the glass cabinet (which gets lots of compliments and opens up that run of cabinets). finally, concluded that we could always get Herringbone back to install an island later if we changed our mind; not yet!”

The cabinets are all hung with aged brass antique hinges to fit into the rest of the design and with the handles. The seamless sink with it’s curved and rounded splash back makes a lovely feature below the Velux roof windows. The worktop which flows throughout the kitchen is a low-silica Quartz.

“We had an initial design meeting with Rob where he talked us through the process, and we discussed our initial plans. There is quite a difference between those initial plans and our final design and this is thanks to the sage advice from Rob and the team; using their experience to advise us as to where we may want to re-consider aspects of our initial plan.”

“One of the real attractions of using Herringbone was the level of service and quality of our wonderful kitchen. From the get go I knew I wanted a larder cupboard and it hasn't disappointed. It is one of our favourite parts of the kitchen as it is so useful for storing all our dry food, but the wine rack as a statement piece runs a close second! All the drawers and spaces house our dry food and the surface handily doubles as a bar!“
