The North London Kitchen & Larder
“When we bought our new home it needed complete renovation. The first thing I was adamant on was having a Herringbone kitchen. My sister has one and I’ve swooned over it since the day she installed it. I didn’t budge on that, having a herringbone handmade kitchen was my priority. And I had already decided I would prioritise that over anything else.”
The Design
We absolutely love this space! The client completely gutted their house and got Herringbone involved from the very beginning. This kitchen was designed to be the main hub of our lovely clients’ home and to fit their lifestyle and family situation.
“When we first started the design process all David had to go by was architect plans and dimensions on a room that had not yet been built. I found the visuals he sent over really helped me imagine the space as I didn’t have the real thing to stand in at the time. David was extremely crucial actually on other aspects of our build as he re jigged where our architect had initially placed our boiler. By doing so he created a large larder and better use of space in our utility room. Something he wasn’t actually asked to do but has had a brilliant impact on our home.”
It features a long run of lower cabinets, two upper cabinets with a floor to ceiling unit at the end. The island is generous and makes the space social by creating seating and additional work- and storage space.
Due to Covid the design process was all over Facetime, phone and email however, this has not had an impact on how the kitchen works for the client.
“From the first email and FaceTime meetings with David at Herringbone, he made the whole process an enjoyable and stress free ride. Infact it wasn’t until after installation and once we had moved in to our new home that I actually met him in real life! Once installation started the process yet again was smooth and straight forward. Any issues they occurred they sorted themselves without a fuss. Nothing was a big deal to them.”
The cabinetry is our Westminster Range, in a gorgeous and impactful dark blue and light pink.
The Details: Colours, Hardware, Worktops Etc
This kitchen has extraodinary attention to detail, maximising the space to its full potential. From the Quartz splash back and worktop to the reeded glass in the upper cabinets this kitchen is aesthetically pleasing to the eye and to its every day functional use.
“Right now my favourite part of the kitchen is my pantry. I love it, it was my dream to have one. It’s the main hub for food, and the most used cupboard in the entire kitchen. Especially by my kids. The other has to be my hot tap. Pure genius!”
The internal elements and storage of this kitchen is striking and shows real craftmanship with it's bespoke detailing.
The Larder
The larder is almost an invisible unexpected suprise. Tucked into the corner and fitted perfectly, the inside of this floor to ceiling larder is just as beautiful as the outside.

On Using Herringbone
“I honestly think having a handmade kitchen is brilliant. You can feel the love and hardwork that’s gone into the cabinetry. And the beauty of it being handmade, you can always re paint it in the future if you fancied a change. For me seeing the dovetail joints makes me so happy. They’re beautiful!”
