Showroom Feature: The Larder!

This week, we wanted to take a quick look at a fantastic unit to feature in your kitchen, which can help utilise space more effectively, whilst looking stylish and traditional. The larder, as you may have guessed from the title, is quickly becoming one of the most popular additions to new kitchens.

The larder was commonplace before the common availability of the refridgerator, as it offered a cool, dry place to store foodstuffs. Whilst the larder has certainly declined in popularity, it is making a resurgance, due to its ease of access, and its superior storage. The larder can be used in a multitude of ways to fit into your kitchen design, and offers a great unit to fit into tight spaces, being available in a range of widths and measurements, in order to fit whatever space you have.

As a basic, two basic choices you have feature a pull out larder, or a door larder with pull out drawers. Both offer a large amount of storage for such a stylish unit, and help to keep the clutter out of the kitchen cupboards. Otherwise, you may also like to feature a larder-fridge combo, which combines both the unit and appliance into an incredible design space.

Whether or not you can see a larder fitting into your new design, it is a good unit to consider, due to the storage possibilities it offers. We hope to feature more units in the coming weeks, in the lead up to our Showroom renovation. Drop in to the showroom any time for a demonstration, or contact us online to book a fitting.

Meet the Herringbone Team: Our Fitter, Leroy!

This week we speak to one of our kitchen fitter's, Leroy!

Hi! Give us a quick introduction; who are you?

Hello, I'm Leroy, and I work with Will fitting the kitchens across many of our projects.

Tell us about your career!

I've worked in kitchens and fitting for 30 years, and bring a lot of experience to the table. I orginally trained as a engineer but found that I enjoyed actually making things, more than designing them. I've lived in Whitstable for 20 years and love being so near the sea. My wife is an artist and we enjoy the calmer life that Whitstable offers. I also love fitting kitchensaround Kent because you find a lot of peculiar old houses with odd structures - it's a lot of fun, and often challenging, but that just means more experience to help with future work.

What is it you do at Herringbone?

I work with others to fit the kitchen. This can include plastering, plumbing and any other work that needs to be done in the space, as well as ripping out your old kitchen. I am a perfectionist by nature so I will not complete a job until I am happy with every aspect of it.

What project are you most proud of in your time with Herringbone?

Every project is special in it's own way, so it's nearly impossible to call out a single project. If anything, my favourite will just be the most recent, as it's the freshest in the memory!

Why should people go with Herringbone?

I bring a lot of experience having fit kitchens for over 30 years. William is a fantastic designer and very practical in that he envisions the kitchen from the fitters point of view, as well as the designers. I really enjoy working with William and think he brings something new and refreshing to the area in his design and attention to detail.

What about you would people be surprised by?

My sons play music around the Whistable area, and I have helped their creativity by building a sound system and area in my house! (It's not only kitchen fitting I work in, but I created what is practically a recording sutdio in my garage!)

Meet the Herringbone Team: William Durrant

With Herringbone Kitchens having recently celebrated it's 2nd Anniversary (yay!), we thought it would be a perfect time to meet and introduce our team to the site, and who better to start with than our Director and Designer, William Durrant!

Hi! Give us a quick introduction; who are you?

Hi, my name is William Durrant. I live in Canterbury and have a one year old son, named Freddie, who keeps me on my toes.

Tell us about your career!

I have been working in the Kitchen industry for almost a decade. I started working for a much larger company and have also worked for another independent showroom. I learned a lot about design, project management and the kitchen industry in my first few roles. However, I wanted to branch out and be in the position to design my own kitchen ranges and manage all aspects of the project. I am lucky to have the opportunity to own my own company and very lucky in having the best team around me.

What is it you do at Herringbone?

I am the Designer as well as the Director.

What about design drives you?

I love a project and love when there are particularly challenging elements to the design. It is especially fun when clients are brave in wanting to try new materials.

What project are you most proud of in your time with Herringbone?

I’m proud of every project, they are all very important to me.

Why should people go with Herringbone?

We are a small independent company that relies on perfection, great design and customer satisfaction. Our team is up for anything, often times are clients come to us with ideas that we have not seen done before. We love sourcing new materials and finding creative ways to make kitchens that truly stand out.

What about you would people be surprised by?

I am a bit of a DIYer. I plumbed, rewired and plastered my entire house. As you can see, the transformation from an old student house is quite something!
