Kitchen Tips: How To Paint A Primed Kitchen

Our online modular cabinetry is finished in a primer only. This means the cabinetry has had at least two coats of primer, it has been de-nibbed and is now ready for you to paint in any colour of your choice.

STEPS FOR APPLYING PAINT COLOUR

1. Wipe down with a damp cloth

2. Apply first coat of paint with a foam roller or 2-inch wide paintbrush for a hand painted finish and wait until it is completely dry.

3. Once first coat is completely dry, lightly sand down with a fine sandpaper to ensure a smooth finish.

4. Clean any dust from sanding with a damp cloth.

5. Apply second coat of paint as with the first.

6. Once second coat is completely dry, repeat process as needed.

7. Attach knobs, handles etc.

SOME BITS TO CONSIDER:

Do not attach any handles or knobs until painted and completely dry. Do not use any harsh chemicals when cleaning your units, a damp cloth will do the trick. 

You can use a foam roller or a paint brush to paint your kitchen units depending on the finish you are after. A roller will give you a much flatter finish whilst the brush will give off a more hand-finished effect, much like our bespoke cabinetry.

We recommend using paint with a slight sheen or in an eggshell finish rather than a matt finish as they are more robust and much easier to clean when inevitably scuffed or poked with mall sticky fingers. We use water based as it is an eco friendly alternative.
