The Cambridge Kitchen & Larder
“We loved the whole journey with Herringbone from start to finish. I was recommended by a friend and although we are in Cambridge and Herringbone is in Canterbury we liked the look of the kitchens and the company’s ethos. Our first zoom meeting with our designer Luke was great. He really listened to our needs and talked though our ideas and vision.”
The Design
Our lovely clients’ kitchen is a perfect example of how a space can be turned into a kitchen that is both incredibly functional but also very social. We love that when you open each cabinet or drawer in this kitchen you find more bespoke features and storage options. It makes use of every single space available making it flow nicely.
The bespoke L-shaped design has floor to cealing cabinets on one side and lower and upper cabinets along the adjacent wall. The large island is perfect for the family and gives them the option of where to eat and socilise on the daily.
“Our kitchen fitter, Mark was a master in his field (even our builder was impressed!) and it was so exciting to see our designs brought to life. The care and skill that was taken to execute them was apparent as the fitting went on.”
The kitchen is our Rye style and it is painted in a lovely dark green from the Herringbone Paints range, called Container Green, which when the light changes makes the atmosphere and hues change too. It’s beautiful.
“We then visited the showroom and got a feel for the quality and finish of the product. Luke answered all our questions and helped us to make decisions on the taps and sinks. We came away from the showroom knowing we’d made the right decision going with Herringbone. Such a lovely company to deal with throughout. We went backwards and forwards on a couple of details with the kitchen design and Luke was always so patient and helpful with his experience to assist with our decision making.”
The Details: Colours, Hardware, Worktops Etc
This kitchen has extraodinary attention to detail, and is packed full of storage both visual to the eye and hidden out of sight.
The large Range stove sits in the middle of the main worktop with a lovely incased extractor fan above it. The combination of a Quartz worktop and a wooden worktop on the island is beautiful and complements the wooden beams in the extension creating a warm atmosphere.
The hidden storage is lovely in this kitchen and the Quooker tap over the prep sink on the island is perfectly located for cooking and tea making. We love the floating wooden shelves, which makes it all come together.
“We always say we are so thrilled we decided to add a “hot tap” and butler sink to the island. It felt slightly extravagant, but Luke informed us of the benefits and it has been one of the best decisions we made with the kitchen. We also loved the idea of having an island we could all sit around, socialise whilst cooking and we knew we wanted it to be a decent size.”
Architect Liz King was a big part of establishing the space for the new kitchen and the client’s build throughout.

The Larder
The large larder and storage unit is as elegant and stylish as it is functional. The spice racks give extra storage and the cold shelf makes it easy to wipe down and prepare toast or cereal on too.
“I really wanted a pantry cupboard and fell in love with the one in the Herringbone showroom. The craftsmanship and organisation it offered was exactly what we had in mind. It is one of our favourite pieces in the kitchen and makes cooking so much easier when you can see everything you need. It makes kitchen storage so simple, user friendly and looks beautiful.”

We have learned so much about designing a kitchen, its not only the look of the kitchen, its imperative to think about how we would use the space and the requirements for our family. We also love to host friends and family so it needed to work well as a space.“
