The Bedford Kitchen

The Backstory

We recently completed this gorgeous bespoke kitchen in for a family in Bedford. Rosie and her husband Chris undertook a renovation of their Edwardian house. The existing kitchen was clearly loved by the previous owners, but hadn’t seen an update in a long time and wasn’t practical for the new family.

“They didn't have seating at the breakfast bar and that was something we knew straight away we wanted to make it a more sociable room. Before this project we had never done any renovations so it was quite daunting. The new kitchen has turned out to be one of the smoothest aspects of the renovation!”

The Design

The stunning new kitchen features bespoke cabinetry in the ‘Rye’ range, sits in a U-shaped or cockpit layout with a long penisula, creating a lovely sectioning within the open plan kitchen/dining space. Two wall units featuring reeded glass fronts sit either side of the countertop cabinet in the centre of the U, also hugged by a beautiful tongue & groove detail.

“We saw pictures of a Herringbone kitchen on Instagram which my husband and I both loved and so knew we wanted to go with Herringbone. Taking inspiration from that kitchen we knew we wanted blue as the colour. From there David and Rob created a design that we hadn't considered but works so well for us.”

“They moved the hob and oven from where they were previously so I can now see my son playing while I cook. It has also created loads of storage with the worktop larder cupboard. Our other favourite parts are the huge larder cupboard which hides the under floor heating manifold whilst giving us lots of storage and having the large drawers as they fit so much in and are easy to use.”

The Details: Colours, Hardware & More

For the cabinetry, our clients chose a beautiful deep, navy blue paired with burnished brass pull handles & bun knobs, making for a classic and timeless look.

We love the bespoke details in this kitchen, like the tongue and groove panelling either side of the countertop unit, featuring brass rails for beautifully storing every day items.

The reeded glass doors on the two wall units break up the solid run and allow for light to pass through and reflect, making the space look and feel more spacious.

The insides of all the cabinetry including the zig zag shelving, cutlery inserts and drawers are all made out of a gorgeous solid oak, bringing a touch of warmth to the cool tone kitchen.

The design they produced was perfect and didn't require any changes so they clearly asked the right questions and listened to everything we discussed.
