The Nackington Rd, Canterbury Full House Project
Full Home Renovation
When this lovely family, first bought their new home, off Nackington Rd in Canterbury they knew it was almost the prefect home for them. It needed some cosmetic upgrades, and most significantly, it needed a larger kitchen. The old one was small, closed-off, and out of step with the way they actually wanted to live.
"When we bought the home, it had a very small kitchen. From the beginning, we knew we would extend to give us that big family kitchen for everyone to meet in. That was how it all started, with just a kitchen."
What followed was a project that grew far beyond that first brief, but the heart of it never changed. The family wanted a comfortable and welcoming home, built around how they actually spend their days.
"Our favourite spot is the kitchen, we tend to hang out in the kitchen, it's such a great space."
A generous island and a long, sociable table sit in the room, giving the family exactly the kind of space they were after, room enough for a full house, a busy week of cooking, and the dogs underfoot. The beautiful navy blue cabinetry is a classic choice that sings at all times in the day.
We were lucky to get to work on other rooms in the home, this includes the boot room, utility, wine room, bathrooms, dressing rooms, wardrobes and one off pieces of joinery. It is difficult to show every picture in this beautiful space, but here are a selection.
The family's connection to Herringbone began long before any plans were drawn.
"Years ago, our daughter had come across Herringbone and suggested it. We saw the studio and had got to the point if we ever had a new kitchen, we knew it would be Herringbone."
Will invited the family to come and see the workshop in person, where every piece of Herringbone furniture is designed, cut, joined, and finished by hand.
"Will invited us to the workshop, we visited and saw how the team make everything, and were extremely impressed by the quality of the wood, craftsmanship, and everyone takes pride in what they are doing. The craftsmanship is amazing, and it is so great to see a company making things locally.
Working closely with Luke and David, the brief expanded room by room, idea by idea, until the project had grown to take in the whole home.
"From the very start the whole design process, with Luke and David was really fun. It was great to work with them, they were great at coming up with ideas and things we wouldn't have thought of. This may be when the project snowballed into a whole home project."
For a project of this scale, it would be easy for the process to feel overwhelming. Instead, the family found the opposite, a genuinely enjoyable experience from first sketch to final fit.
"It is nice for it to have been fun and not stressful at all. It was a really enjoyable process altogether."
Bringing a project of this size to life takes a team that takes real care in what they are doing.
"All the installations team and guys in the workshop were nice and took care in their craft and in our home. They were all really helpful and easy."
From the first kitchen unit through to the final fittings of what became a full home project, the same standard of craftsmanship and care followed through every room.
“It's just a lovely place to be, it functions well and looks beautiful.”
It is not often you get to work on a project with this much detail, and bespoke elements, and we feel extremely humbled that the clients chose us to work with. It was such a memorable project and we wish the family a lifetime of happiness in their beautiful home!
