The Oxted Project

 The Oxted Project

“Working with Herringbone was a very positive experience. Lucy was great and listened to everything I shared and was adaptable and helpful. All the automations on comms and booking etc helped everything be very seamless and easy to understand. The addition of Candice halfway through the process, really helped everything run smoothly. The team that was on site were incredibly considerate and hardworking. All in all, it's a thumbs up from us.”

The Design

We worked closely with the interior designer Lizzie Green to achieve this calming and beautiful design for a lovely family near Oxted. There is a calm, subtle and harmonious look and feel to this large open plan kitchen space, with the pantry and back kitchen sitting neatly behind the glazed wall.

The kitchen is our classic Westminster style and works well with the family’s needs. The fact that the pantry and back kitchen is within reach of the main kitchen meant that a lot of storage could be relocated. This in turn opened up the kitchen space as only the essentials needed to fit in this area. The architects Stickland Wright played a big part in the house project also.

The Details: Colours, Hardware, Worktops Etc

It’s a very elegant and sophisticated space with lovely subtle design features, such as the bespoke tongue and groove paneling, skirting on the island only and decorative shelving allowing the customer to show their personality. The colour combination of Friday Night Green on the kitchen island and Cathedral Stone on the kitchen cabinets from the Herringbone Paints range look sublime in this bright open space. As with many family homes our kitchen is the heart of the house. The space we spend time together, entertain, and (for me) work from. So, developing this space was so important to us.

“We live in a house with a lovely open garden view in to trees with beautiful winter sunsets but the old kitchen space didn't make the most of this aspect. The idea was to open up the whole space to the outdoors and to bring some of those natural colours, materials and tones into the kitchen design.  And lots of light light light! We loved the idea of an island as enjoy the kids sitting up there whilst we cook and chat.

The burnished brass handles chosen throughout the space look beautiful against the cabinet colours and bring in warm tones too. The kitchen space flows nicely and has storage everywhere you look from the cabinets housing the fridge freezer to the bookshelves in the kitchen island.

The peg drawers and cutlery trays in the kitchen drawers allow for organised storage options for the family at all times too. The light and subtle low-silica kitchen worktop allows the light to reflect off the surface and make the space feel even lighter. Love the large island space for entertaining, and simple but smart things like the chopping board cupboard make me very happy.

“We love the large island space for entertaining, and simple but smart things like the chopping board cupboard make me very happy. I love my 'pantry of dreams' which is a walk in space painted bright yellow where all the kitchen clutter and my husband's messy hot beverage making ways are tucked away. Lovely check under worktop curtains instead of doors give a lovely cottage feel to it.”

We wish the client a lifetime of fun and happiness in their beautiful home.
